Albert Schweitzer - did you hear about him?

Albert Schweitzer was born in 1875 in Kaysersberg Alsace, the son of a pastor's family. He grew up bilingual German / French. He graduated from high school in 1893 in Mulhouse and then went to the University of Strasbourg to study theology and philosophy. Full of energy he learned to play organ and piano in Paris.
Back in Berlin, he wrote a dissertation on The Philosophy of Religion at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitaet citing Immanuel Kant and his quest for reason within the borders of religion.
Schweitzer earned his doctorate in Strasbourg. phil. and began studying medicine in 1905 and graduated in 1913 with Dr. Ing. med.
His goal was to become a mission doctor. He married and founded in the former French Equatorial Africa on the river Ogooue in Gabon, the forest hospital Lambarene. Due to the 1st World War, he was arrested in 1917 and interned in France. In 1924, the Schweitzers were able to return to Africa and enlarge the jungle hospital.
In 1952 Schweitzer was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Albert Schweitzer Children's Villages exist in 12 different federal states. The Albert-Schweitzer-Verband der Familienwerke und Kinderdoerfer e.V. has its headquarters in Berlin.
