Water cycle on Earth

Evaporation of water|
When you put some drops of cold water out of the refrigerator on a plate and put it in the sun
- what will happen?
Look at your watch and see how long it takes till the water evaporates.
Now put some drops of hot water on a plate and put it in the sun
- is there a difference in time?
Now add a table spoon to the water and wait till it is absorbed.
Now put some drops of this salty water on a plate and put it in the sun
- what do you see after a while?
Imagine, the sun shining on our rivers, lakes and the oceans.
Water evaporates, rises, and is building clouds.
The wind is blowing the clouds into the next hill or mountain.
There the clouds are lifted up, the tiny water drops cool down,
the little bits of water come together, get heavier
and they drop down to Earth.
Gravity let the water run downwards till they reach the oceans again.
The water cycle is completed.
Earth's water cycle is the reason for so much salt in Earth Oceans.
Rain is dissolving salt out of the rocks and the soil
Rivers carry the salt to the oceans
When the water evaporates from Earth's oceans,
the salt stays in the ocean.
The warmer water gets, the more water evaporates.
Warmer oceans evaporate more water...
Ice contains no salt.|
When an iceberg melts, the ocean water around it gets less salty.
Salty water is heavier than water without salt.
So the salty water sinks to the bottom of the ocean.
A movement of ocean water starts: an ocean current.
Earth's ocean currents are extremely important for all life!|
Earth's ocean currents influence all life
Earth depends on intact oceans and seas!
Earth food supplies are supported by ocean currents
When ocean currents change, many humans will starve
